Baby (blah) Food

After reassuring myself that Max would still love me and want to nurse, I decided that it was probably time to dive in with some rice cereal. Max has been smacking his lips pretty much every time I eat anything. The poor thing is just ready! To make rice cereal, as many an experienced mother know, you have to mix it with milk. So for the first time, I mixed formula. Enter, gagging sounds. That stuff stinks! Grandma Barb was there with me as I made it and witnessed my various follies. Next you're supposed to put in just 1 tablespoon to mix with the 4-5 tablespoons of milk (for the first feeding). I nearly dumped the whole box into the bowl! After finally making the gunk, we put Max in his high chair for the first time. Thinking back, we probably should have done that before to get him used to the feeling. He was way more excited about the chair than anything we were going to feed him. I gave it a go trying to pry his attention away from his tray and feed him but I'm really not sure if he ever actually swallowed anything. Most of it just dripped down his face with a disgusted grimace from Max. Daddy was more successful, having employed the infamous Airplane Technique© that worked a few times to break Max's tray concentration.
Overall, I wasn't super impressed with rice cereal, but will keep trying cause Lord knows my baby's waning away from lack of sustenance. :) Enjoy the following illustrations of our first feeding!
Initial curiosity.
Why on earth would you feed me this!?
Is this what I'm destined to eat from now on?
The airplane. Works every time.

  1. YEA Max! Jackson hated rice cereal and we tried for a week straight to get him to like it (sigh). But in the end, we switched to oatmeal (more appatizing and less gross-factor) and he loved it! Good luck!
