Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

A very happy birthday, to my wonderful Dad and Max's grandpa!

Poor Grandpa had to spend his birthday in a hotel in St. Louis. No breakfast-in-bed for him. :( I'm sure we'll be celebrating with him soon though.

I don't think I'm alone when I say that it is so hard to come up with just the right gift for your parents, and my dad in this case. You feel like anything you get them just can't and doesn't say what it needs to say.

Does a new screwdriver say how grateful you are for the decades of his insisting that you are not a quitter and that you should always be faithful to your commitments? Does a tie tell him that you appreciate all the years of his quiet, unselfish hard work that provided such a comfortable life for you? Can a toolbox express what it means to you that he imparted so much knowledge, catechesis, and Catholic example on you and your siblings? That's when you just toss your hands up in the air, go buy a gift that will never say what it should, and pray that you are able to show them how much you love them and how much they mean to you.

Happy Birthday, Dad. I love you!
