Back from CA

And so we've returned from our venture to the West Coast. Nothing but sunny skies, palmy trees, and skinny Marines.
Scott is the 3rd from the left in the "birth control" glasses.

Unfortunately for our family, the trip adviser and leader (mi madre) was convinced that the other marine moms who said it was cold and rainy during their sons' graduations were in fact more correct than the forecast which called for 75 and beautiful every single day. Hence, the Umbehr clan came prepared for something a little similar to Kansas with sweaters, jeans, and not a single pair of shorts or flip flops.

All sibs, minus John, plus law-brothers & token nephew
Despite the wardrobe, the trip proved to be even more joyful and rewarding than expected. Seeing Scott for the first time during the moto (motivational 4 mi) run and then seeing him in uniform standing tall like man filled me with so much pride. I even shed a few tears after having a good time teasing my mom about her leaky eyes.

As for my son, he did quite well on the plane rides with a little assistance from an iPad and an uncle Joe. His naps went straight to the netherworld but he managed to be generally delightful during the long days. Anytime he saw Scott he'd screech "Gock!" and point with gusto at his uncle. He kept a running tab on everyone's location especially the beloved Joe and his Ju-Ju with whom he has an ever-tumultuous relationship.

Much to my chagrin, and my sister's heightened knowledge of what women are supposed to avoid during pregnancy, we didn't even go to a seafood restaurant. We did eat a ton of Mexican and fat food (burgers, fries, etc.) which I was not sad to leave.
Jude fell asleep at 2 out of 3 dinners.
Our last full day was spent at Sea World. There was something about the atmosphere at the Shamu show that made me suddenly melt for marine animals. Ridiculous. Regardless, the shows were amazing and Max stayed awake the entire day though his responses to the various stimuli became increasingly more internal.

We missed our chance to cannon them with water...
Is he happy being a performer?
Family photo in a gorgeous location.
My giant Sea World shorts purchased out of desperation.
If you want them, I will give them to you.

Tomorrow I promise to post about the new kitchen!!!
Adios!
