April 30th was one exciting day!
I planned Max's birthday party for this divine day and invited people to a place that could not be reserved. For weeks I was plagued with nightmares that some other genius mother would be hosting a party as I pulled up to Eastborough park with all my cupcakes and other shenanigans in tow.
The day before we experienced winds reaching 50 miles per hour and Max spiked a 100.7 degree fever. It seemed the stars were not lining up for our shindig. That night on a Wally world run with my mum I did a guest count only to discover that what I was planning for and the number of people were severely varying. After a long swig of YouCanDoThis punch, I bought all sorts of crackers and whatnots, went home, made more frosting and hit the hay.
My wonderful M-I-L and Topeka's best, Grandma Barb, was a cupcake decorating star and I made even more frosting. I kept reminding myself that this was only a first birthday party and that there was no need to be stressing out yet I still begged my sister to come over and help me with the rest of the stuff.
Now my heart rate is rising again just thinking about it so I'll let the pictures finish the story.
P.s. Max's fever didn't go away until after his party.
The spread. Complete with Wands to Tame the Wild Things/Wild Thing Fingers, Wild Pigs in a blanket, and of course, Wild Thing Cupcakes.

Completely uninterested.
He actually almost threw up when I tried to get him to take a bite.
With Uncle John and sweet Meredith, John's girlfriend. They came down from Manhattan for the weekend.

We had lots of wonderful guests come to celebrate Max's birthday. Almost all of his great-grandparents and grandparents were there and all of my siblings were able to make it. Thank you to all of you who made it such a fun day!
p.s. I found the idea for the hats here.
