1/2 MARATHONER
I went on a trip with Mel to St. Louis for her first 1/2 marathon. She totally inspired me with training for most of it on her own and all the determination she had in completing this particular goal. Someday I hope we can run in one together. We had a great time together and had some much needed sister time~
BIRTHDAY PARTY
This is backtracking a little bit but here are pictures from Gen's birthday party. The theme was unofficially "bunting." Gen was the very willing cake eater. We got her the coat and hat below... Kelby said that looked like what a rich aunt would buy her. I'm not sure if that's what we are but we'd sure love to be!
GOOD HABITS
Our pickypickyPICKY eater apparently likes salad. What.Ever. I've figuratively and literally thrown my hands up in the air and said, "he'll eat when he's hungry!" Also, I'm trying to get him to brush his teeth because 18 months of grime can't be good for anyone's teeth. So far he sucks and chews on the brush. Don't worry, I'll keep you updated. :)
PUMPKIN PATCH
We joined my mom, Jude, and the Timlers on a trip to the pumpkin patch where all of Wichita/Andover/Derby decided to go with a week or so left before Halloween. It was actually really cute to see all the kids games and rides and Max loved running in the hay area.
ON-GOING KITCHEN SAGA
After much back and forth quote getting, materials picking, etc etc, we are finally probably eventually going to start on the renovation of our kitchen. Last week we found this loooovely backsplash tile (the middle brick-shaped stuff). I brought it home and placed it on my counter and admired. My lovely designer friend Mary told me it was probably going to be pricey. My idea of pricey was probably $18 a sq ft. NAY! It was $45! H no is what I said. But ne'er fear! Mary held my sad, depressed, limp hand and took me to Lowe's where we found almost the same thing for a mere $10.98. Thanks be to Gott in Himmel!
That will be starting soon.
NEW PROJECTS
After a year of Adrienne telling me that sewing was sew easy (hehe) I finally was inspired when a friend had her first baby. It was a little rough going since her name started with an 'S' which is possibly thE hardest letter to navigate a machine around. But I've officially caught the sewing bug and am asking for one for Christmas. And I have a cousin expecting a baby girl in January so I made her a nursing cover which was even easier than the blanket. I think I just want a real reason to go through the fabric aisles.

RARE PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION
The extent of my holiday kid-friendly crafting.
And that can't even really be considered crafting.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY MOMMA!
We celebrated my mom's 21st annual 30th birthday at the end of October. Dad prepared a gourmet meal of Pizza Hut pizza (birthday girl's request). I helped Max and Jude make her a joint photo card which was, I think, well received. And as is her style, Mom had to be yelled at to stop serving people and just SIT and be served. There are much worse qualities that can be had. She's been my best friend ever since she stopped being in charge of my life and I rarely go a day without talking to her. I love you, Mom!
SURPRISE BOOT CAMP DEPARTURE
Uncle Scott came over on Monday morning and after I casually offered him a bowl of oatmeal, he likes to match Max, he declined by offering me an equally casual reason : I'm leaving for boot camp. Today. I've known for 3 weeks.
Cue: hug, tears, yelling, the whole crazy bit.
Luckily my dad had caught him trying to find his social security card and he had made some very shotty attempts at concealing his leave-taking otherwise we would have been left with a note and lots of WTHeck's!
IN CHARACTER
Halloween arrived and this year we were ready. Unlike last year, when we juggled three separate costumes, I found the perfect one at a consignment sale for a good $7. To get Max ready for his role, we turned to Ole Faithful (YouTube) and heard Baby Mine sung in 3 different languages.
We traveled to exactly 2 houses for trick-or-treating then retired back at our place for a little party.
| Max and Gen refused to pose for us otherwise. |
And please forgive the leeeeennnnnnngggggtttthhhhyyyyy post with excessive pictures. If I could just get my rear in gear, we could probably avoid that all together. That's a BIG IF though.
Until then, Hen.
