SURPRISE!

Kelby's birthday is coming up this Thursday. Last year, I totally dropped the ball on celebrating it so I was determined to make his 24th a birthday to remember. We don't really get to go out too much and since bowling isn't my fave thing to do we don't do it...ever. Kelby really enjoys bowling so that was where I decided the party would go down. With Brian Boeckman's help (Kelby's good friend from Alma) I coordinated a fool proof surprise. Even Kelby's parents came down for the special party. My family, along with my sister Mel from KC, got to celebrate too. To honor my aerospace engineering hubby, I made an airplane cake. It was no 747 but it sent the airplane message well enough. Kelby arrived with Brian a little after 7:00 and we all jumped up and yelled "SURPRISE!" Well, I love my husband, but his response left much to be desired. He looked around as if the surprise was for someone else and once he realized what was happening, a simple smile was all we got. Granted I was so jumpy that I directed everyone to jump maybe a little sooner than we should have. I guess that may have contributed to the confusion. But anyway, lots of our friends showed up to bowl and eat pizza and drink beer. We had a great night! Thanks to everyone who made it out to celebrate my wonderful husband!

My instructions

Childish or not, it actually looked like a plane!

So proud of my creation!

"Surprise!"

Other homemade (obviously) cake

I love him!

Dedicated parents-Thanks for coming!
