The Umbehr family had a busy 4-day weekend. We just got back from our travels yesterday afternoon and we were all pretty pooped! I think Max is a little attached to home so his sleep "schedule" (whatever that is when you're 3 and a half months old) was a little out of whack. Despite the sleep deprivation, Kelby, Max, and I really had a fabulous four days!
Saturday morning we headed to Topeka to celebrate August birthdays (Kelby: August 5th, Bernie: August 7th, Barb: August 17th). Kelby's Boeh grandparents were there as well. Max got in some special time with them and we all got to enjoy one another for the afternoon.
Playing with Grandma Barb and Grandpa Bernie...but more interested in golf on TV :(

Happy to have time with my hubbs.
The next day we went to Kansas City to Prince of Peace Parish for our niece Brooklyn's Baptism. Brooklyn is Jack and Lindsey's second child and she was born on June 29th. She is so adorable and has some crazy awesome hair of which I am sure Max is jealous. I was so excited to see that she was wearing the pretty little dress we got for her! After the Baptism we went to Lindsey's aunt's house where we ate ridiculously well and then got to swim. It was such a welcome activity by all because it was hotter than Hades! Once Max had had his fill of swimming, Carla (Lindsey's aunt the "Baby Whisperer") took Max inside where he and Brooklyn were happily over-stimulated with toys dangling over their heads. As usual, we had a wonderful time with Bernie and Barb, Jack and Lindsey and Jackson and Brooklyn.

Baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
From Carla's we headed to Mel and Nick's house. It had been ages since we'd seen Nick and I badly needed a chance to spend time with my sister. Aunt Melly smothered Max with kisses and loved on him tons. She read to him and sang him new songs. Kelby and Nick did "the manly bonding" (shameless Wedding Planner reference) by playing video games and golfing. Ya, golfing, in 100+ degree weather. It's no wonder they only golfed 6 holes.
It's maybe a little silly that I'm about to mention this in my BLOG but it was an honest highlight of our vacation. Monday night, Mel and I went to TCBY and got some White Chocolate Mousse. MMMMMMmmm it was soooooo good. You see, TCBY used to be in Wichita and then it closed! It was a blow that pains me to this day.
"You've captured my tastebud heart, mousse-y."
We left Nick and Kelby in charge with Max asleep but returned to a screamimg child. Oops! We spent the couple of days talking, shopping, eating Mel's delish cooking, and playing with Max. It was a really great weekend of family fun.

So happy to be with his aunt and godmother!
Uncle Nicky and fave godfather!
We love our out of town family very much and want to thank you all for your hospitality!

WHERE IS TCBY IN KC!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty much at 75th and Mission. About 10 minutes away from Mel's house. No matter how far you have to drive, I say it's worth it! AND I found a recipe for White Chocolate Mousse online. It takes 3 days to make but I'm gonna try it out.
