(I will hold back my comments on how unattractive the perpetually-under-construction city is. I won't say anything about that...)
Richard was my CYO advisor turned confidant who ran away to the seminary after my senior year of high school. We had no clue he was joining even though he gave away practically everything he owned. His cover story was something along the lines of, "I'm going to work at my cousin's laudromat." Still, we suspected nothing. I was given a china cabinet for when I met an "acceptable and approved male." Richard guided me through many an angsty and draMAtic high school year. He tolerated my tales of woe concerning boys, evil teachers, clothes-stealing sisters, and absent friends. His comical, but steadfast friendship is probably what helped to anchor me in my faith and bring me closer to Christ in the first troubled months of college.
So as you can imagine, going to Richard's priestly ordination brought me and my family great joy.
Congratulations, Fr. Richard! We are so blessed to call you our friend!
